DIY Lego Birthday Party for Trace

It’s not a secret that I love an at home DIY party! This is the 5th year that I have thrown a theme party for our son, Trace. This year Trace chose a Lego themed party and we were so excited to have everyone over to our new home for the celebration. Party planning for Trace is something that makes me so happy. I dread the day he comes home and says he wants to have a birthday party at a pre-packaged venue. Gah! Last year we pulled off a Super Hero Birthday party. It was a lot to live up to. You would think Lego themed parties would be super popular, but its really hard to find stuff!! Etsy, Google and a good printer was my best friend. Jeff was really involved this year too! Thank goodness!! We started really putting things together about a week before the party. It’s amazing what the internet can do for you when you want to DIY birthday party. Searching for FREE stuff is a must. Pinterest can often lead you in the right direction and Etsy is a great place to support creatives who hand make items you might need. We decided to rent a jump house, table and chairs for the kids. And very last minute built a playground for extended entertainment. I think I probably spent 6 hours wrapping Amazon boxes and decorating them to look like Legos. Trace’s face was worth every minute spent wrapping them. It was a team effort between me, Jeff and his parents to pull this party theme off. Woohoo! Thank you for your help.

The Lego Cake was a huge hit. My best friend, Danita, has all the skills and tools to make excellent cakes. They taste delicious! We got inspiration from Pinterest and then ran with the idea and made the cake our own. Adding the little Lego men working on the cake really set it off. The marshmallows were sprayed with yellow cake coloring and a candy bar made all the kids smile. The custom cookies were made by my dear friend Maria, who also makes cookies for my brides. She is such a talent. Probably one of my favorite things at the party were the plates my husband made. They were all so unique and accurate to the Lego guy and girl faces. The small little details such as the straw decor is what makes me super excited about party planning. Above all though, the race track was the biggest hit. The kids built their own race cards at the table and brought them over to the race track where they would see how their car would compare to others racing. They could then go back and modify their cars and race again. In the end, everyone received small trophies and tons of fun memories. Their smiles said it all. Thank you to everyone who helped and attended. It was a wildly cold 44 degrees and everyone stuck in there and made it a fantastic day for Trace.
