It was time to head out to the city! The Big Apple. My mom was so gracious to spend the first two weeks with us as we transitioned into living in New Jersey. Her grand finale was a trip to the city. She too has a huge love for the hustle and bustle and tall as can be sky scrapers! I was in charge of the transportation and getting us there. I felt like singing “I’m a big girl NOW!” New Jersey transit system here we come!! It was going to be a beautiful day and we intended to go and fly by the seat of our pants. As I looked around and observed my surroundings, I felt like there were little lessons and encouragements along the way. Here were my findings.

BUS STOPS: Sometimes sitting and waiting allows for you to just “be”. Silence and fresh air can do a soul some good. It also allows for some pretty funny people watching as cars stop at the red light across the street.

PEOPLE: I love people. We are all going somewhere to do something. What makes it special is when you recognize each other, smile or do a nice deed for each other. No matter where you are…you can make someones day better.

NY Time: It’s fast, furious and full of walkers. Just keep moving at their pace and enjoy the happy chaos.

Numbers & Letters: Confusion bubble?#@#% I feel like there are numbers and letters everywhere in NYC! What was once very basic to me- A B C D E F G, 1 2 3 4 5- now seems so complicated. Best thing to do is make sure you have some incredible apps to get you around this city!

Tourist vs Non-tourist: I am starting to move out of the tourist mentality. We ended up on this main strip as the morning began and lines started to form. I quickly wanted to get out of this part of town. I am already referring to “the real NY” as if I have lived here for years. 🙂 Nothing more fun that having brochures shoved in your face as you try to get where you need to be. 😀

READ THE SIGNS: They are sign happy here. Be aware that there are rules and signs everywhere and for everything. If you can’t read–well, you’re in trouble! Ha

Security: I hardly see NYPD in plain site. You can’t help but think back on the tragedy that our country faced some years ago during Sept ’11. But its not just the police that are protective of this city…the people are too. I believe that there are more people in this city who would help you than would harm you.  There is a sense of safety in numbers.

Space: There isn’t a ton of space to live in, but apparently there is plenty to waste in ad space. ha! Love that almost 3/4 of Louis C.K. add is blank space 🙂

Phone & Charger: ALWAYS have a phone with directions and maps! PS: Always  bring a wall charger 🙂

Smile: Everyone may be in a hurry, but smiling is never out of style.

The Signs are Everywhere: I feel like there are subliminal signs everywhere. This one made me happy as it ran up the side of a building.

Love when you find a happy street!

New Adventures: The City offers such a variety of people, adventures and food! It was my first time to go to an all vegetarian place! I loved it!! And you gotta love that name!

The only way to go in NYC is UP!

You may feel like you’re alone, but that is just your perspective. If you were to stand next to this water tower you would see there are thousands of them just like you everywhere! You are NOT alone.

Chaos: It feels like happy chaos in my life right now. It is only because everything feels so uncertain. I cling to God in these crazy times and enjoy the thrill of the unknown. (ceiling decor at H&M in Soho)

Elevators: Life is full of ups and downs. It’s up to you how long you want to stay on that floor and choose to move.

Stand Tall: Everything feels larger than life and tall. Although I feel defeated at times I need to remember to stand tall. Be proud of my decisions and and know that I am doing the right thing!

The Bigger Picture: When life gets overwhelming and I start to knit pick the little things I need to remember the bigger picture. Although my circumstances at the time may be a tad bit overwhelming, it is important to remember God has a bigger plan that I could ever imagine. So, today I step back and take a look.
