Tell us something about yourself that has nothing to do with photography.
I’ve been married for a year now and have 2 handsome boys and a beautiful daughter. I love spending time with my family, but I also love my mommy time. I like to do everything myself! If it breaks- I fix it. I guess that’s just the Mexican in me, ha!! I enjoy watching old world movies and love all kinds of music. I secretly want to sing like Mariah Carey.
What or who inspired you to a hair and make up artist?
To be honest I don’t know what inspired me to do hair and makeup, but what I do know is that I have always loved it. I had a friend who pushed me to go to beauty school because I was such a procrastinator He also introduced me to a friend of his who did theatrical/sci-fi makeup and it all went up from there. They bought me my first pro makeup brushes that I still have! After being introduced to runway make up I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life! How long have you been a professional make up & hairstylist? And when did you know you wanted to work with photographers?
I’ve been doing hair and make up professionally now for 10 years, I always knew I wanted to work in the photography world. I love the idea of making people smile and making them feel beautiful. Photography allows that moment in time to be captured forever and I think that’s so amazing.
Describe your style in 3 words.
My style in 3 words, Hmm… I would like to say I love every style. I may be a chameleon. Ha! I can be Glamorous one day and grunge the next. I cant pin point my style because I like it all. What types of events do you do hair and make up for?
I do it all. Beauty, Weddings, Children, Fashion, Boudoir, Runway, Portrait, Theatrical ….
That’s one thing about me I can never say no to anything. I work from a Salon 3 days a week (Salons Of Volterra Fort Worth) I’ve worked in photography workshops with amazing photographers such as Skye Hardwick with Work Of Heart Photography. I enjoyed doing hair and makeup for young kids and working with such a talented photographer. I also worked with Sebron Snider on models for Runways and head shots. I work on location at wedding. I love working onsite with brides so I can get a true feel for how she wants to look on her wedding day and I am able to make adjustments and touchups as needed. I’ve also worked with Dance Makers of America doing hair and makeup for their ballroom dancers. One of my most proud moments was doing hair and makeup for Miss Teen America in 2006. She won runner up!

One place I go for continuance education is Youtube..ha! I learn by watching other people do makeup. I take away what I think fits my clientele. I also follow a lot of Make up artist on Instagram. I’m a visual person so I have to see pictures to understand it. One of my favorites to follow is Mac_daddyy and Anastasiabeverlyhills . I love looking up drag make up because it magnifies the look and makes it easy to understand why you should apply makeup a certain way. And of course you would tone it down in real life!
My worst beauty mistake was not starting my career earlier 😉

We know you are a very well respected hair and make up artist in the Bridal industry. What can a bride do in the weeks before her wedding to ensure for healthy skin?
I always recommend my Brides to wax or get facials 2 weeks before their big day just incase they get any kind of allergic reaction. And most importantly- get plenty of sleep.
What should a bride NOT do the days before her wedding?
I always ask brides to NOT wash their hair on wedding day. Having clean hair will make it difficult for their style to stay. Second day hair is the Best!! I also ask my clients not to wax their eyebrows the same day, this will make your eye brows swell- NO BUENO! No Rest will also make it hard for me to cover under eye bags. Brides, if you are thinking of tanning, please do so months in advance! Give your spray tan a day or two to set in before the wedding. We don’t want to experiment the day of and then have you looking like an episode of Jersey Shore 😉 ha.

Like I mentioned before second day hair works wonders! Not Only will your curls stay but your hair will look amazing because your hair would be so easy to work with and the stylist will be happy!!
FACT:
* Cucumber banishes puffy eyes- Cucumbers do help banish the appearance of puffy eyes. Since cucumbers are cold, they will help diminish the water retention under the eyes that causes a puffy appearance.
FICTION:
* Chocolate makes you break out! A bad diet will irritate your skin not the Chocolate.
FACT:
*Toothpaste can clear a blemish- Toothpaste can clear a blemish due to its ingredients, which dry the skin. Applied on the spot only, toothpaste will help dry it up- speeding up the healing process. However, there’s also the possibility that it will irritate your skin, causing dryness and flaking, so be warned.
FICTION:
*Waxing or shaving makes hair grow thicker! Waxing or shaving removes the hair but doesn’t actually make it grow back thicker. What happens is that after it’s been shaved or pulled out, the shorter hairs look coarser than long hairs. What are you most proud of professionally?
I’m most proud of knowing Leaha Bourgeois. She has opened so many doors for me and has helped me grow and spread my wings!!! ((((THANK YOU SONIA…what a sweet comment!))))
What are your goals for the future?
My goal for the future is to be a well-known hair and makeup artist!!
What advice can you give H&MUP artists who want to start working with photographers?
The best advice I can give is to be open to new ideas and new adventures. Keep an open mind and always be on time. Listen to what they want and need. After all…it is their vision unless they ask for help. 😉
