- Engagement
August 21, 2015
It was a gorgeous day in the West Village of New York where wet met up with Gina and Dave at Murray’s. These two love birds flew in from Boston to spend a weekend in the city and we were so happy to spend some time with them! Murray’s was the perfect place to start with cheese, wine and great conversation. We really enjoyed our time walking the cute streets of West Village while grabbing cheese, tea and our favorite- Gelato! So excited to share in their big adventure!

Gina & David’s Love Story…
Gina’s perspective:
We got engaged on a hot summer day at the Cloisters in New York City. It’s a medieval art museum that I’d always wanted to visit during the two years while David was living in New York and I was working in Chicago. I was always a little bit of a medieval art geek, so strolling through a museum built with stones shipped from Europe was magical. The engagement came as a complete surprise. Knowing David for over four years, planning surprises and fooling me was not his strong suit. I later found out he had attempted multiple proposals – including a random trip to Lake Geneva and squeezing through the crowd to watch fireworks at Chicago’s Navy Pier – they all failed. That’s more like the David I know—a little clumsy, but always caring and thoughtful.
David’s perspective:
This time had to be the “right time.” Gina’s birthday was around the corner and I knew how upset she would be with a “birthday engagement.” She had already loudly and obviously made fun of Valentine’s Day engagements in front of me, and I got the hint.
The last month had been so stressful. I carried the ring I got Gina on two weekend trips to Chicago already. As someone who has left more glasses, wallets, and electronics on planes than I like to admit, it was a scary experience. The plan was originally to take her out on a weekend getaway to Lake Geneva. It just never felt like a “right time” on that trip. Fast forward a couple weeks, and I was going to do it while watching the Navy Pier fireworks. I dressed up in jeans and a button-up and we got going. Between my sweat from the summer heat and the cigarette smoke from other spectators, it just never felt like a “right time” on that outing.
This time had to be the “right time.” I took Gina to the Cloisters in NYC on a Sunday morning. We walked around for a bit, and I guided her off to an area on the exterior of the main building, facing the Hudson. It was just the two of us. I held her as we watched the scene before us in a shaded area underneath a tree.
This time was the right time.
